Friday Nights In America

Friday Nights In America

This is one of my favorite shots that I caught from this past seasons Varsity football games that I attended. From my flickr page of the same shot:

"American's are crazy about their football. The start of the season generally marks the end of summer and the start of pee wee, high school, college and professional play. Friday night high school games play a major role in this fanaticism that Americans have for the game. No doubt about it - I'm a fan too . . . !

The Newark Valley Cardinals played at the Waverly Wolverines. The Card's triumphed with a tough 33-30 victory and move on to a 3-0 record for the season!

This was my first attempt at shooting a night game under the lights. I still don't have a really good sports shooter lens ( a fast 2.8 or 200+ mm) but I do have a Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 which is a nice lens if not a bit on the short side. I targeted players coming at me on my side of the field and did a number of shots of the guys on the sidelines like this one above.
